The Ordinary – Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 & Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

Say what? These names aren’t that ordinary.

I will be honest, just bought these because of their packaging. But they look so effective with their sleek aesthetically white and black packaging. And the price is very low, they start from +/- €6.

The Ordinary

This is the newest brand from Deciem. The Ordinary is an evolving collection of treatments offering familiar, effective clinical technologies positioned to raise pricing and communication integrity in skincare. The brand was created to celebrate integrity in its most humble and true form. Its offering is pioneering, not in the familiar technologies it uses, but in its honesty and integrity. The Ordinary is born to disallow commodity to be disguised as ingenuity. The Ordinary is “Clinical formulations with integrity”.

I’ve bought two formulas from their line. One is a High-Strength Vitamin and Mineral Blemish Formula (Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%) and the other one is a Hydration Support Formula with Ultra-Pure Vegan Hyaluronic Acid (Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5). Both of them contain 30ml.

Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

This one is alcohol-free, oil-free, silicone-free, nut-free, vegan & cruelty-free. These are a lot of good characteristics. This product regulates sebum (oil) and minimizes pores. The ingredient that reduces blemishes is Niacinamide (Vitamin B3). As you can see in the name there’s 10% of it in the product along with 1% of zinc. Vitamin B3 reduces the signs of aging caused by sun exposure and environmental pollution.

Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B

This formula is also alcohol-free, silicone-free, nut-free, vegan & cruelty-free. But it isn’t oil free. It supports hydratation and repairs the skin. Hyaluronic acid swoops in with the ability to replenish moisture that is crucial to having younger-looking, supple skin. It makes the skin look & feel smoother and especially hydrated. You can use it mixed with your day or night cream or just on it’s own before you apply your cream.

General pros
  • This is the cheapest product you’ll find
  • Lovely packaging
  • It’s made with a dropper, so you can just use the amount you need
  • It has no fragrance
General cons
  • Some of the formulas can feel a little bit sticky
  • Can be a substitute for higher end products but will never be 100% the same

Review: Smooth & Go Silicone Sponge – Be Creative Makeup

Does this work and will it replace my beloved Beauty Blender?

I was very curious about this. My everyday foundation is pretty expensive so this could save me a lot of money. I decided to try it on my arm, this was the easiest to film. I’ve used the same amount of product for both tools to see how much it would cover. The foundation is way too dark for my skin tone, I did this on purpose so you can see how much of my arm it covers.

As you can see, the difference is unbelievable. You can save a lot of product by using the silicone sponge. But when testing it on my face, the foundation applied way too cakey and didn’t blend with my skin. It felt more like a layer on top of my skin. One of the reasons this happened is because I have dry skin. To be honest, even with a beautyblender it is very difficult for me to get a natural coverage. It could work with other skin types.

Positive points:
  • You save A LOT of foundation, you can cover approximately 3x to 5x more of your face than with a “beauty blender” (I did the test with a Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge)
  • The result isn’t that streaky if you blend it well.
  • It is way more hygienic, because you can clean it fast and good.
Negative points:
  • Lays the products ON the face and doesn’t blend it, gives a more cakey effect.
  • Doesn’t work with my dry skin, but on my arm the effect isn’t as cakey as on my face.
Will I use this again?

I’m sorry, it has nothing to do with the brand but this didn’t work for me at all. I will give it another try when I’m primed & moisturised properly. But I think this will be a no for me. I’ll stick to a normal sponge…

My new favorite eyeshadow palette

Zoeva – Caramel Melange

A few weeks ago, I talked about the free shipping at Cosmeticary, a Belgian store with a webshop and I talked about the palette I bought.

The price is €22, so it isn’t an expensive palette. This isn’t the cheapest palette either, but you won’t be disappointed. I’ve been loving orange tones for months now, they have been part of my everyday makeup since then. My first orange was from MAC (Rule), an amazing matte light orange eyeshadow. Since then I can’t put my orange eyeshadows away. I was looking at the Morphe 35O palette, but I’m not a big fan of online shopping for makeup I never tried. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I do it but not for brands I don’t know. When I walked in Brussels on New Years morning past the Cosmeticary store, I saw this Zoeva palette. The store wasn’t open (duh) and I had no plans to go to Brussels of Antwerp. Long story short, I bought it when there was free shipping on Zoeva.

It was too pretty to use the first days, it had to stay intact because I love looking at my new things and keeping them fresh as long as possible. I’m that kinda girl that loves new things but gets tired of things once they aren’t new anymore. But not with this palette, I used it, one time, two times, thee times… I couldn’t get enough of it. This became my everyday palette!

The pigment is amazing for the price, my favorites are “Start Soft”, “Aftertaste” & “Liquid Center”. These 3 are perfect for a nice evening look. Especially “Liquid Center”, which is a shimmery bronze with lots of pigment. One swipe is enough. Here you can see swatches of the eyeshadows. I didn’t use a primer, just swatched the shadows, sometimes more than once because some of the colors aren’t that visible on camera. As you can see, they are really good. The palettes exist in many other colors, too many to mention. Just take a look at them online or in the store & fall in love.

Sample Sunday – Thierry Mugler Angel

This Sunday, it’s time to review a Perfume. I’ve worn Alien by Thierry Mugler for years because I thought it was original. After a few years I realised it was worn by a lot of women. At that moment I didn’t like Angel, it smelled like grass for me. But I had this beautiful sample of the perfume and remembered it didn’t smell that bad the last time I tried it. Actually it smells really good.

Angel is a classic and it already exists 25 years. This is also the first perfume from Thierry Mugler. It was created by perfumers Yves de Chiris and Olivier Cresp. The smell of it makes you dream, it isn’t just a perfume, it’s more like a journey. Angel by Thierry Mugler is classified as a refreshing, woody, oriental fragrance.

Thierry Mugler are also environmentally friendly, because almost all of their bottles are refillable. Curious about the smell? Go try it in your nearest beauty shop!

Sample Sunday – Marc Jacobs New Nudes Sheer Gel Lipstick

Okay I know, this one isn’t a sample, but it is sample sized. I’ve been busy with my exams so I wanted to review a “sample” that I know better than any other sample. This way I can give you a 100% clear review.

First of all: Packaging! This mini lipstick came in a The Nude(ist) set (€19,95) with the Highliner in Blaquer and with a super cute mirror in silver with a pochette. It isn’t made from glass, so it’s unbreakable.

But more about the lipstick, it is a perfect color for everyday wear. I always use it with my everyday makeup. The color is like dark pink nude with an orange/brown tone. It is difficult to explain, but it isn’t just pink. The lipstick is sheer, not matte at all. That means it won’t stay long on your lips. You’ll have to reapply it many times throughout the day. Because it is a nude shade, it won’t bother as much as another lipstick if it wears off. The asset of this lipstick is that you won’t feel it, it is so creamy. I buy mine here at Sephora FR (€29,50), because they give lots of discounts throughout the year. Don’t be scared to try something else beside the matte liquid lipsticks that have been trending for years now!

A little plus with the full-size is that the cap is magnetic, that way you won’t have to worry about the lipstick staining your bag or makeup bag.
